About Group Piano

Group piano lessons have many benefits, including a collaborative learning atmosphere, the implementation of technologies to accelerate progress, the satisfaction of creating music in a group, and the lower cost of study. While much of the learning in these classes will happen as a group, I also aim to give one-on-one time in each class to address any specific concepts or areas. This class is a great way to learn a new skill and maybe make some new friends in the process!

Testimonial:

"I really appreciate how well-rounded their approach is to learning and playing music, that was not just about playing music - stretching, focusing exercises, giving us background on the pieces of music and the composers, bringing in contemporary pieces, etc.."

Testimonial:

"I’m a complete novice so to say I gained musical skills is an understatement. I am now able to read music and have gained the concept of beat/timing. I also enjoyed the interaction within the group. I can play the piano.....well at least it’s a good start and now have the confidence to continue."

FAQs

Q: I've never taken piano lessons before. Is this for me?

A: Absolutely! Any course labelled Level 1 is for complete beginners. These classes will cover fundamentals like basic note reading, hand position and posture, technical development, and more.

Q: Should I take group piano classes or private piano lessons?

A: Private piano lessons are very valuable for a variety of students and have many benefits including that they are more personalized in their approach, can be more flexible in terms of scheduling, and are paced more specifically to the one student. Group piano classes have other benefits, including that they are more cost effective, build community and camaraderie, can accelerate learning through the use of a variety of learning approaches, and are honestly just a ton of fun!

Q: Can I take one of these courses in conjunction with private lessons I am taking?

A: The short answer is yes, with a couple of caveats. First, you should discuss this with your private instructor so that they are aware you are in another piano class. Second, you will likely want to enroll for an accelerated course (labeled Level 1X, Level 2X) or a special class like PopChords!.

Q: What if I need to miss a class?

A: All of the classes will be video recorded, and you may request to have the video sent to you if you miss class. This also serves as a virtual option for those who are unable to, or would rather not come in person.

Q: Where will the classes be located?

A: The group piano studio is located at 5003 University Avenue, Madison, WI.

Q: I want to enroll but I can't make one of the times listed or don't see a class at my level. What should I do?

A: Send an email to panoramicpiano@gmail.com and let us know what times or classes you'd like to see offered in the future! This will help us determine other classes to open.

Q: How do I sign up?

A: Send an email to panoramicpiano@gmail.com to discuss course times and placement! We typically select class times based upon interest.
